Rama Prasad Goenka or R P Goenka founder of RPG group passes away
Industrialist Rama Prasad Goenka, better known as R P Goenka, died early on Sunday morning at his residence here after a brief illness, family sources said.
He was 83. He is survived by his wife Sushila and sons Harsh Vardhan and Sanjiv.
He has been unwell for nearly a year now and made his last public appearance at a lifestyle event organised by his daughter-in-law Preeti in Kolkata in December 2012.
As part of the succession plan, the nearly Rs 25,000-crore business empire was divided between Harsh (Chairman of RPG Enterprises) and Sanjiv (Chairman of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group) in 2011.
Goenka made a humble opening for RPG Enterprises in 1979 with largely inherited companies — Phillips Carbon Black, Asian Cables, Agarpara Jute Mill and Murphy India.
