Maruti Suzuki Manesar's plant will resume operation on August 21, Decides to sack 500 employees.




Maruti Suzuki said on Thursday that the lockout at the Manesar plant will be lifted on August 21. The company will begin the process of regularising contract workers as permanent employees from September 2. The company will decide if they are fit to be taken on as permanent staff.

To start with, the plant would turn out 150 cars a day; production would be ramped up subsequently. The plant would resume the manufacture of the Swift and Dzire models.

The company has issued notices dispensing with the services of about 500 of the 1,528 permanent employees at the plant. In all, there were 3,300 workers at the Manesar factory.

The State Government has decided to set up a Rapid Action Force of 500 police personnel headed by senior police officers. Each shift in the Manesar factory will have 100 such staff, 25 per cent of whom will be armed. Forty security officers have been provided for the safety of managers, supervisors and where necessary workers.

The company said that revenue loss is around Rs 1,428 crore with an additional Rs 10 crore on damages.
